⭐ ChoreStash Terms of Service

Last updated: 5 September 2026

The short version: ChoreStash is a chore chart. It keeps no account for you, holds no money, and cannot read your family's data. If you lose your family key, nobody — including us — can recover what was synced. Points are points; they are not money, and no reward is ever bought, sold or delivered by us.

Who these terms are with

ChoreStash is made and operated by Yari LLC ("we", "us"). These terms are the agreement between you and Yari LLC for your use of the ChoreStash app and the chorestash.com website (together, "ChoreStash").

By using ChoreStash you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it. Our Privacy Policy is part of these terms, and it describes what we do and do not hold.

You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to accept these terms and to set up a household. Children in a household use it under the supervision of whoever set it up.

What ChoreStash is

ChoreStash keeps a household's chores and lists, awards points for chores that are done and approved, and lets people choose rewards that somebody in the household has stocked. It runs on your device. If you turn on family sync, it also keeps your household's devices in step through our sync service.

What ChoreStash is not

This is worth being blunt about, because the app talks about "rewards" and "points" and those words mean something different elsewhere:

Free, and the one-time purchase

The app is free. Every chore, list, reward, point, streak and backup works on a single device at no cost, for as many household members as you like.

Family sync — keeping several devices in step — is a one-time purchase for the whole household. It is not a subscription: nothing renews, nothing expires, and there is no charge per person. One person buys it and everyone they invite is covered.

At the time of writing, family sync is free for everyone and no purchase is offered in the app. When that changes, households already using sync keep it free, and the app will say plainly what it costs before you turn sync on.

Payment, refunds and restoring

Any purchase is made through Apple's App Store or Google Play, under their terms, using the payment method on your store account. We never see your card details. Refunds are handled by whichever store took the payment, under that store's refund policy — we cannot issue or refuse one, so please ask them. A purchase can be restored free on a new device from the same store account.

Your family code and your key

If you turn on family sync, your household gets a random family code, and your device generates an encryption key that never reaches our server. The key travels to your household's other devices inside the invite link. This is what makes it true that we cannot read your data.

It also means two things you should be clear about before turning sync on:

You are responsible for keeping your family code, key and invite links secure, and for who you let into your household.

Using it reasonably

Please do not:

The sync service applies limits — on how much can be stored per household and how quickly families can be created — purely to stop abuse. They are set so that no real household meets them, and they are not a plan tier.

We may suspend or remove access to the sync service for a household that breaks these rules. Doing so never touches the copy of the data on your own devices, which remains yours and keeps working.

Households and children

Whoever sets up a household is responsible for it: for creating each member's profile, for choosing what appears in it, and — if members are children — for being their parent or guardian, or having that person's permission. The app asks for a first name or nickname and discourages full names for exactly this reason.

Everything in a household is visible to that household. Approving chores and changing settings sit behind a PIN chosen by whoever set it up; that PIN protects against a curious child, not against a determined adult with your unlocked phone.

Your data

Your household's data is yours. We claim no ownership of it and make no use of it — we could not, since what reaches our server is ciphertext we have no key for.

You can download a backup at any time, and you can delete your household's synced data yourself from Settings, immediately and without asking us. Synced data for a household that has not been used for 12 months is deleted automatically. The Privacy Policy has the detail.

Our part: what we can and cannot promise

We will try to keep the sync service running and working well. We cannot promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of faults. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of ChoreStash, including the sync service. If we ever discontinue the sync service, we will give at least 60 days' notice in the app and by a notice on chorestash.com, so that every household can take a backup — and the app will keep working on each device on its own, because it always did.

ChoreStash is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yari LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, points, or household records. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim relating to ChoreStash is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, or US$10.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited — including, in some places, liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of the two paragraphs above may not apply to you, and you may have rights under local consumer law that these terms do not affect.

Ending it

You can stop using ChoreStash whenever you like. Deleting the app removes the copy on that device; Delete our data from the server in Settings removes the synced copy for good. A one-time purchase already made is not refunded by us on cancellation — refunds are the store's, as above.

We may end your access to the sync service if these terms are broken. The sections on data, warranties, liability and governing law survive any ending.

Running your own server

ChoreStash can be pointed at a sync server you run yourself instead of ours. If you do that, these terms still govern your use of the app, but the service, the data and everything that happens to it are yours — we operate nothing, see nothing, and are responsible for nothing on it. Self-hosting is never charged for.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Texas will have jurisdiction — except where the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim, or requires a claim to be brought, somewhere else.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them, and a material change will be signalled in the app before the version that relies on it ships. Continuing to use ChoreStash after a change means you accept the updated terms.
